The tournament will start at 2 pm, although KubbUK helpers will be on site from 1 pm setting up the pistes. For novices, this is an ideal time to be taught how to play the game or to practise.

KubbUK operate what is known as a 'Swiss Ladder'. Each team plays 3 'qualifying' matches. Your first match will be against a random opponent. If you win your first match, your second match will be against a team who also won their first match. Similarly, if you lost your first match, you will play another team who also lost their first match. Your third match will be against opponents who have won as many matches as you. In this way you always play against a team of similar ability. If a suitable opponent cannot be found for you, you may come up against the near-mythical "Neil Wilson AllStar Kubb Dynamos", a team made up of anybody appearing to be at a loose end for the next 20 minutes.

After the 'qualifying' matches, the teams that have won all 3 will compete for the coveted KubbUK Cup, most likely via a semi-final and a final, depending on the numbers.

Similarly teams that won 2 matches will compete for the KubbUK Plate, again via a semi-final and final.

Note that because we do not know before the day how many teams will be competing, there can be occasions when we have an inappropriate number of teams competing for a prize. For example 5 teams may have won all 3 matches. In such an instance a mechanism will be devised to reduce the 5 teams to 4, hence enabling a semi-final and final to be played. Note that the mechanism will be based on Kubb skill and not a random draw.
